This Giclee Print, titled ‘Pith 01’, along with ‘Pith 02’, comprises a portrait series in two parts that captures, for me, the essence of putting down our masks.

The idea for this series unfolded when I was grocery shopping in 2022. I had picked up a very unique-looking orange, and as I sat to eat it, I became quite curious about the peel and the white spongy layer I needed to bite through to enjoy the fruit.

I learned this white spongy membrane was called pith. Pith is something that needs to be fractured in order to get to the citrus fruit. I feel we all wear our own layers of pith, our own masks, that we need to break through in order to reach our fullest potential.

This print is editioned out of 100. Each print comes with a seal of authenticity indicating its production date, edition number (e.g., 00/100), and DiVastanzo’s signature.
